Anne also formed a complex friendship and a complicated relationship with Gilbert Blythe who was two years older than Anne however he was studying at the same level having had his schooling stopped when his father fell unwell. On their first meeting as schoolmates Gilbert was known to tease Anne by calling her Carrots. Amybeth McNulty plays Anne, an orphaned 13-year old with a history filled with abuse at the orphanages and houses. Anne was misplaced in the home of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, who lived on Prince Edward Island. Now it is 1919 when the show is ending.
